Over the course of the 2010-2011 school year, the Boylston Chess Foundation is planning to hold a series of chess camps during the December, February, and April school recesses, as well as two summer camps in June and August.

2010

  • December: 27th, 28th, 29th, and 30th 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day

2011

  • February: 22nd, 23rd, 24th, and 25th 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day
  • April: 19th, 20th, 21st, and 22nd 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day
  • June (school's out): 28th, 29th, 30th, and July 1st 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day
  • August (school's out): 23rd, 24th, 25th, and 26th 9:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. each day

These chess camps invite young chess players who already have a complete understanding of the rules of chess to come and develop their abilities. With a combination of lecture, question/answer, and hands-on techniques, the instructor(s) will cover: Tactics, Strategy, Openings, Middlegames, Endgames, and Problems.

Who can join?:
School-age children, K to 12, interested in getting better at chess from motivated beginner to intermediate.

How much does it cost?:
Each camp is $75 for Boylston Chess Club members. Non-members who have never been members before will need to pay to join the club for one year in which case the camp fee is waived. (Parents with more than one child in the camp can get a discount—only $50 per child.)

Wednesday, September 8: New England Nor’easters versus the New Jersey Knockouts 7 PM. Games will be broadcast live via projector at the Boylston Chess Club. Sunday, August 1: Sunday Scholastic Quads 3RR; Game/30. Sections: Groups of four according to rating; Entry fee: $15; $10 for Boylston C. F. members, join at the tournament and get the member rate. Prizes: $20 1st per Quad, 2nd Medal . Registration: 9:30-10:00 am; Rounds: 10:20 – 11:25 – Lunch - 12:45 Players can not withdraw and must finish the tournament once started. Penalties may apply. Tuesdays, August 17 to October 26 (except September 21): Beginners' Night 7:00-9:00 PM. The Boylston Chess Club is open to beginners for casual games (unrated, with or without a clock).
